What’s New About the First Fence PlaySecure® Gates?

What’s New About the First Fence PlaySecure® Gates?
In 2024, First Fence launched PlaySecure®, a range of gates designed with child safety in mind. Ideally suited to playground entrances, they feature smooth edges, a bright Polyester Powder Coating (PPC) finish, and are RoSPA-compliant.

We recently launched new additions to the PlaySecure® range that feature a different type of closer. How do they differ from the original design? We take a closer look at our blog and break down each gate's strengths, the installation process, and where they are suitable.

Key Difference Between Locinox Interio & Gatemaster APS Closers

If you are choosing between the Locinox Interior and Gatemaster APS, you are looking at two of the most popular invisible gate closers. Both are designed to be hidden away for a clean look and better protection against vandals.

The main difference is where they sit in the gate: the Locinoc Interio lives inside the vertical gate post, while the Gatemaster APS lives underneath the bottom rail.

Locinox Interio

  • Best for: A complex, invisible look and easy installation on new metal gates.
  • Placement: It is built inside the gate frame (the vertical box section).
  • Installation: It uses Quick-Fix bolts, which means you just drill and bolt it in. There is usually no welding required, making it a favourite for DIYers or installers who want to avoid welding.
  • Opening Angle: Typically allows the gate to open up to 125°, with adjustable closing speed.
  • Weather Resistance: Constant closing speed in hot or cold weather.

Gatemaster APS

  • Best for: Heavy-duty gates and high-traffic public areas (like schools).
  • Placement: It is installed underneath the gate and acts as the bottom hinge. It sits in a steel case that is welded to the bottom of the gate.
  • Installation: This version is welded-on, though bolt-down versions exist. It requires more precise alignment because it acts as the actual load-bearing hinge.
  • Opening Angle: Restricted to 90° to prevent damage from over-opening.
  • Safety: It is specifically designed to meet RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) recommendations, making it the go-to for playgrounds and schools where finger-traps are a major concern.
