Tree Protection Fencing

Ensure the safety and compliance of your construction site with our FirstShield Tree Protection Fencing, now available in both heavy-duty steel scaffold and robust timber frame options. Designed to create strong Construction Exclusion Zones (CEZ), these systems protect trees from damage during construction, demolition, and excavation.

Our protective tree fencing is engineered for high impact resistance and structural integrity. We offer two distinct systems to suit your site's specific needs and aesthetic preferences:

Steel Scaffold System: This kit utilises heavy-duty scaffolding tubes and components, securely joined with joint pins and swivel couplers. Each kit includes all necessary scaffolding tubes (10ft, 5ft, 8ft, and 21ft), swivel couplers, and joint pins to create the sturdy frame.

Timber System: This version provides a more natural aesthetic while delivering the same high level of protection. It is constructed from heavy-duty, pressure-treated timber posts and rails, which are securely fixed to create a rigid and durable barrier.

While temporary fencing panels are not included in either kit, the frames are designed for easy attachment using linking stainless steel cable ties, which can be added to your order.

Tree protection is essential to comply with UK legal standards like BS 5837 and Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs), which carry significant fines if breached. Crucially, it also ensures a tree's physical survival by creating a protected zone.

Our FirstShield tree protection fencing kit prevents irreversible damage to the delicate root system from soil compaction and other construction activities, which can otherwise cause the tree's decline and eventual death long after work has finished. Ideal for sites requiring strict adherence to tree protection regulations (BS 5837:2012), these systems provide a professional, durable, and effective barrier to safeguard valuable trees.

Key Benefits of Temporary Tree Protection Fencing

BS 5837:2012 Compliance: Our FirstShield BS 5837:2012 system are specifically engineered to meet the rigorous "fit for purpose" requirements of the British Standard. The rigid scaffold frame, once erected and braced with fencing panels, forms the immovable barrier required to create a compliant Construction Exclusion Zone (CEZ).

Please note: The Vertical Brace Only and Timber systems are not compliant to BS 5837:2012 and are suitable for sites where formal compliance may not be necessary but a strong tree protection system is still required.

Superior Tree & Root Protection: Creates an impermeable barrier that safeguards tree trunks, branches, and critical root areas from physical impact, soil compaction, and chemical exposure.

Enhanced Site Safety: Clearly defined exclusion zones around retained trees help to manage and control site traffic. By preventing unauthorised or accidental entry into sensitive areas, the fencing system contributes to overall construction site safety and environmental compliance.

Durable & Robust Construction: The system is built from galvanised steel scaffolding tubes and high-strength couplers. Designed for high-impact resistance and long-term use, it can withstand the rigours of construction environments, including heavy plant movement, adverse weather, and repeated use across multiple sites.

Features of FirstShield Tree Protection Fencing

Steel Scaffold System

Heavy-Duty Scaffolding Frame: The system's strength comes from high-quality, galvanised steel scaffolding tubes which are BS EN 10219-1 S355 compliant. It includes a combination of 10ft, 5ft, 8ft, and 21ft tubes for flexible configurations.

Secure Connections: Features swivel couplers and scaffolding joint pins to ensure all tubes are fully tightened for maximum structural integrity.

Vertical Bracing Only System

Heavy-Duty Scaffolding Pole construction: This tree protection system is given additional strength by the vertical brace system constructed from high quality, galvanised steel scaffolding tubes.

Robust Assembly: These steel scaffolding pole vertical bracing systems use heavy-duty fixings to create a strong and secure fencing line.

Please note that the Vertical Bracing Only System is not designed to meet the strict requirements which are part of the BS 5837:2012 standards.

Timber Frame System

Robust Timber Construction: Built using high-quality, pressure-treated sawn timber posts and rails. This ensures long-term durability and protection against rot and insect attack, providing a sturdy barrier with a more natural appearance.

Secure Assembly: The framework is constructed with heavy-duty fixings and bracing, creating a rigid structure that cannot be easily moved or dismantled, ensuring it remains "fit for purpose" throughout the project.

Please note, while this timber system provides a strong physical barrier, it is not designed to meet the strict specifications of BS 5837:2012. It is ideal for projects requiring a visible, natural-looking protective fence where formal compliance is not a mandatory condition.

Applications for Tree Protection Fencing

Major Construction & Infrastructure Projects: Essential for large-scale sites with significant ground disturbance and heavy plant machinery, such as roadworks, utility installations, and major civil engineering works where tree preservation is critical.

Urban & Rural Property Developments: A requirement for new builds, extensions, and landscaping projects where existing mature trees are being retained. Planners will often specify that BS 5837 compliant fencing must be used.

Demolition Sites: Crucial for safeguarding existing trees that are being kept from the risk of falling debris and impact from machinery during demolition phases.

Projects with Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs): Non-negotiable for any work carried out near a tree protected by a TPO. Using this system provides clear evidence of the protective measures taken to avoid legal action and substantial fines.

Sites with Strict Planning Conditions: Ideal for any project where the local authority or an arboricultural consultant has stipulated the use of a robust, non-movable tree protection barrier as a condition of granting planning permission.
