Introducing First Fence’s PlaySecure® gates, a reliable solution for safeguarding playgrounds, parks, and public recreation areas. Designed with child safety as the top priority, these gates have been developed to comply with RoSPA guidelines, helping reduce the risk of accidents while creating secure play environments.
With robust construction, thoughtful safety features, and accessibility in mind, PlaySecure® gates provide peace of mind that your play area remains protected while remaining welcoming and easy to use.
Manufactured from high-quality pre-galvanised steel, PlaySecure® gates are built to withstand frequent use and challenging weather conditions. Their strong construction ensures long-lasting performance in busy public spaces.
These RoSPA-compliant gates are available in both single-leaf and double-leaf configurations and are supplied in a dig-in format for secure ground installation.
The gates feature smooth edges and a bright, powder-coated finish that not only enhances visibility but also helps protect against corrosion, rust, and general wear over time.
For added versatility, the gates offer a universal swing direction. The swing orientation is determined during installation by positioning the slam plate accordingly. This allows the gate to comply with RoSPA recommendations that playground gates should ideally open outwards, unless a nearby hazard requires an alternative direction. An outward-opening door also helps prevent unattended dogs from entering the play area.
Accessibility has also been considered in the design. The single-leaf gate provides a 1.2m opening, exceeding the recommended minimum clearance of 1.0m for wheelchair and pushchair access. The double-leaf gate offers a 2.9m opening, allowing sufficient space for maintenance and emergency vehicles to enter when required.
Some of our PlaySecure® gates incorporate an integrated APS hydraulic closing system that provides a smoother, more controlled closing action than standard spring hinges.
The adjustable hydraulic closer allows the closing speed to be carefully set, so the gate shuts gradually in line with the RoSPA-recommended minimum of five seconds. This controlled movement helps minimise the risk of the gate striking children while still ensuring it reliably returns to the closed and latched position.
The PlaySecure® range has been carefully developed to meet RoSPA safety guidance, making it suitable for playgrounds, schools, parks, and other public recreational spaces.
Each gate is designed with several safety-focused features, including:
All PlaySecure® gates are manufactured in accordance with BS EN 12604, making them ideal for high-traffic environments where safety and reliability are essential.
The integrated self-closing mechanism automatically returns the gate to the closed position after use, helping ensure the play area remains securely enclosed.
The closing speed can be adjusted to meet the recommended minimum of five seconds, reducing the risk of the gate striking a child while still ensuring it closes and latches properly.
For added reassurance, safety tethers are included to support the gate if a hinge fails, keeping it upright and maintaining compliance with BS EN 12604 safety requirements.
The PlaySecure® child safety gate is supplied in a dig-in format and requires Post Mix for a stable, secure installation. We recommend three bags of Post Mix per post for optimal stability.
Designed for low maintenance, these gates typically require only occasional cleaning with a damp cloth to remove dirt or debris. The durable powder-coated finish can also be easily maintained using our touch-up spray paint if required.
PlaySecure® railing gates are the perfect complement to First Fence’s EnviroRail® Play Sec bow top railings, creating a cohesive, secure perimeter for playground environments.
First Fence offers an extensive range of gates to suit different applications, including mesh, palisade, railing, domestic and specialist gate systems. If you require something unique, our in-house fabrication team can also design and manufacture custom gates tailored to your project.
