CIRAS stands for the Confidential Incident Reporting and Analysis System. It is a confidential safety reporting service used primarily across the UK transport industry, including the rail, bus, and tram sectors. It offers workers a safe, independent way to raise health, safety, and wellbeing concerns that they may feel unable to report through their organisation’s usual channels.
Confidentiality- Reports are made in confidence; CIRAS does not disclose the identity of the person raising the concern to their employer.
Independence- CIRAS operates independently from transport companies, ensuring reports are handled impartially.
Safety-Focused- The system aims to improve safety and help prevent incidents by addressing concerns before they escalate.
Follow-Up- CIRAS passes the concern to the relevant organisation anonymously and requests a formal response, which is then shared with the individual who submitted the report.
