Chain link fencing is a widely chosen option because of its strength, affordability, and versatility. Commonly used for security, boundary delineation, sports enclosures, and animal containment, it offers a durable yet discreet alternative to other fencing types. Made from galvanised steel or PVC-coated wire, it withstands harsh weather conditions and ensures long-term reliability.
Also known as wire netting, wire-mesh fencing, chain-wire fencing, or diamond-mesh fencing, this woven style comes in various heights and requires little upkeep once installed, making it a cost-effective and practical solution.
A crucial component of chain link fencing systems, corner strainer posts are specifically designed for areas where the fence changes direction. These posts absorb the tension created at corners, ensuring the fence remains stable and structurally sound.
Constructed from hot-dip galvanised steel (ISO 1461) and also available powder coated in green or black (BS EN 13438), this post offers excellent resistance to rust and weathering, making it well-suited for outdoor use. Measuring 1500mm in total length for the 0.9m system, it features a dig-in design that requires post mix for secure installation. Made from 50 x 50mm rolled steel angle, it is more heavy-duty than intermediate posts as it must withstand the added strain from directional changes. When embedded deeply and reinforced with post mix, it effectively supports the fence’s tension. This post includes 40 x 40mm RSA struts tailored for the 0.9m high system. This post does not come with chain link mesh.
Corner strainer posts play a vital role in the structure and stability of chain link fencing, particularly where the fence changes direction (at corners). Their main function is to anchor and stabilise the fencing system at these crucial points where tension forces are higher due to the directional change.
Handle Tension at Turns - When a chain link fence changes direction, the tension from the wire and mesh increases. Corner strainer posts absorb and distribute this tension to prevent the fence from sagging or becoming loose. They support the tension wires that run through the fence to keep the mesh taut.
Provide Structural Support - These posts act as the backbone for the fence where the line of the fence is not straight. By being set deeper into the ground and often reinforced with diagonal bracing, corner posts maintain the structural integrity of the fence.
Ensure Fence Alignment - The posts help maintain the proper alignment of the fence, ensuring that it stays in place at the corner without shifting. This is especially important in fences that stretch over long distances or in areas exposed to wind and other environmental factors.
Allow for Secure Installation of Mesh and Wire - Corner strainer posts provide the necessary support to securely attach the chain link mesh, tension wires, and other components. These posts act as anchor points where the rest of the fence can be tensioned properly.
Facilitate Turns and Curves - In situations where the fence is laid out around a curved path or angled corners, these posts allow the fencing system to follow the layout without compromising its strength. They are essential for both right-angled corners and curved sections of the fence.
Chain link fencing is a versatile solution used in various settings to provide security and boundary definition while maintaining visibility. It is commonly installed in schools and playgrounds to ensure safety, as well as in sports facilities such as tennis courts, football pitches, and multi-use game areas. Industrial sites, including warehouses, factories, and storage yards, benefit from its durability, while residential properties use it as a cost-effective way to secure homes and gardens. Parks and recreational areas rely on it to define spaces without obstructing accessibility, and farms utilise it to protect livestock and crops. Additionally, construction sites implement chain link fencing for both temporary and permanent security needs, while airports and transport hubs use it for controlled access and perimeter protection. Car parks and commercial premises also depend on this fencing solution to safeguard vehicles and properties.
