Timber Knee Rail Fencing

Timber Knee Rail Fencing is a robust timber-based structure crafted using the 'birdsmouth' jointing technique. This fencing style typically features securely positioned horizontal rails supported by vertical posts, also recognised within the industry as birdsmouth, ascot or diamond fencing.

The term 'Knee Rail' finds its origin in its design, strategically placed at a low height around knee level, serving to demarcate an area without impeding sightlines. The birdsmouth joint is a notch or cut at the end of the timber that fits tightly onto the post. It strengthens the structure by increasing the contact area between the rails and posts.

We have the perfect Knee Rail components for your fencing project! Choose from 1.8m or 3.6m rails in both 75mm x 75mm and 100mm x 100mm widths. Our 100mm x 100mm posts come in 0.9m or 1.2m heights to match your rail selection.

Plus, we offer three post strap styles: Bishop's Hat for 100mm top rails, V-style or Shoe-style for 75mm top rails. With this variety, you can easily build a knee rail fence that's perfectly customised to your needs.

Its versatility allows for application across diverse settings such as car parks, pathways, and walkways. Due to its heights this is not a security product however, it efficiently defines boundaries, discourages trespassing on grass or flower beds, and manages designated parking spaces. Its cost-effectiveness makes it ideal in public settings where stringent security measures aren't paramount.

Durable, decay-resistant timber predominantly shapes this fencing style, rendering it particularly suitable for outdoor installations. To assemble, use top rails, birdsmouth posts, and galvanised straps. Galvanised straps come in straight or 'Bishop's Hat' style. Use nails to make a strong and long-lasting connection between the timber posts and rails. All these products are available from First Fence.

A major upside of timber knee rail is its minimal upkeep. With just periodic inspections and occasional stain touch-ups, it boasts a long lifespan, saving you time and effort in the long run.
