First Fence is thrilled to present its newest product line: Timber Acoustic Fencing.
Noise is unwanted sound, and can be annoying, disruptive and difficult to deal with. It has the potential to disrupt conversation, hobbies and recreation, concentration, and, in severe cases, lead to hearing loss or mental health issues. Wooden constructions and barriers can act as highly efficient sound absorbers and reflectors, playing a vital role in reducing noise levels across diverse contexts. This type of barrier incorporates easily with diverse exterior designs, offering a pleasing, warm, and inviting aesthetic.
The 2.0m EchoReflect Reflective Acoustic Fencing Kit from First Fence operates by reflecting noise off its profile. The kit is provided in loose form and can be easily assembled on-site. It is also available as a pre-formed panel. The acoustic screen kit features a profile that, when correctly installed, eliminates gaps, preventing sound transmission.
The functionality of these acoustic barriers lies in deflecting noise away through a specifically designed profile. This profile includes vertical sawn boards and cover strips, secured using horizontal timber rails to reduce any gaps that might allow the passage of sound. These barriers are available as a dig in format only.
The choice between wooden or steel posts for constructing these panels depends on the specific needs of the site, both are available to choose from.
These Acoustic Fencing Kits made of timber provide a simple resolution for homeowners, house builders, and local authorities grappling with traffic noise concerns. They are well-suited for bustling areas or businesses where undesirable levels of noise are an issue.
The system has undergone independent testing by Salford University, meeting Highways England requirements (BS EN 1793 Road Traffic Noise Reducing Devices). It is also compliant with BS EN 1794-1 and BS EN 1794-2, aligning with Highways Sector Scheme 2C for the prefabrication of environmental barriers.
Manufactured from Tanalised (UC4), pressure-treated timber from an FSC certified supplier, this wood has a natural pale green colour that blends seamlessly with its surroundings. This timber is surface incised at the manufacturer's site and this is an important factor in achieving the very best preservative protection for ground contact timber.
The loose kit contains Straight Boards, Timber Gravel Board, Capping Rail, Horizontal Rails and and Cover Strips. Choose between a timber post kit or an RSJ steel post (steel post comes with wooden wedges). Please note, this kit does not come with fixings.
Installation itself is straightforward, once the posts are in place (2.4m centres), face fix the cant rails onto the posts at an equal spacing, securing using stainless steel nails. Now the main support structure is in place you can attach the vertical boards, the boards need to be nailed onto the cant rails butted up to each other. Cover strips then need to be attached over the joints where the panels butt up together using stainless steel nails (64mm). Finally, attach the capping rail with stainless steel nails to the top of the fence to provide a neat finish and allow water to shed in the direction of the post.
The timber acoustic barriers boast a manufacturer-offered 30-year desired service life and are designed to be maintenance-free with correct installation. These panels can be painted with a breathable stain or paint. It is recommended that any vegetation is cut down where the acoustic fencing is to be installed and do not install where they may sit in water.
These panels not only enhance aesthetics but also provide an effective solution for addressing excessive and unwanted noise in various applications, including residential, education, transport, commercial, and industrial sectors. In addition to noise management, acoustic fence panels offer increased privacy and a more aesthetically pleasing alternative to industrial-styled security fencing.
Our EchoReflect Panels are also available in 1.8m high and 2.4m high.
