Undesirable sound, usually known as noise, has the potential to intrude on communication, recreational activities, and, in severe cases, can lead to hearing impairment or mental health issues. Wooden constructions and barriers exhibit notable effectiveness in absorbing and reflecting sound, playing a crucial role in reducing noise levels across a host of applications. Timber Acoustic Fencing barriers seamlessly blend with various exterior designs, providing a charming, comfortable and inviting appearance.
First Fence is excited to introduce its latest product line: Timber Acoustic Fencing.
The 1.8m EchoReflect Reflective Acoustic Fencing Kit from First Fence is supplied in loose form and can be conveniently assembled on-site. There is also the option to purchase this pre-assembled. The acoustic fencing kit features a specifically designed vertical profile that, when correctly installed, eliminates gaps, preventing sound transmission.
These timber sound barriers operate by redirecting noise off their surface profiles, comprising vertical sawn boards, cover strips, and secured with horizontal timber rails to minimise any potential gaps for sound transmission.
The acoustic fencing panels can either be constructed using wooden posts or RSJ steel posts depending on site requirements, make your selection and add to your order.
Timber Acoustic Fencing Kits offer a straightforward solution for homeowners, house builders, and local authorities dealing with traffic noise issues. Additionally, they are Ideal for busy areas or businesses where excessive noise is unwanted.
The Acoustic Fencing system has undergone independent testing by Salford University, meeting Highways England requirements (BS EN 1793 Road Traffic Noise Reducing Devices). It is also compliant with BS EN 1794-1 and BS EN 1794-2, aligning with Highways Sector Scheme 2C for the prefabrication of environmental barriers.
Manufactured from Tanalised (UC4), pressure-treated timber from an FSC certified supplier, this wood has a natural pale green colour that blends seamlessly with its surroundings. This timber is surface incised at the manufacturer's site and this is an important factor in achieving the very best preservative protection for ground contact timber.
The loose kit contains Straight Boards, Timber Gravel Board, Capping Rail (50mm tapering to 38mm), Horizontal Rails and Cover Strips. Choose between a timber post kit or an RSJ Steel post (steel post comes with wooden wedges). Please note, this kit does not come with fixings, you will need stainless steel nails (64mm) to suit your nail gun.
Installation itself is straightforward, once the posts are in place (2.4m centres), face fix the cant rails onto the posts at an equal spacing, securing using stainless steel nails. Now the main support structure is in place you can attach the vertical boards, the boards need to be nailed onto the cant rails butted up to each other. Cover strips then need to be attached over the joints where the panels butt up together using stainless steel nails (64mm). Finally, attach the capping rail with stainless steel nails to the top of the fence to provide a neat finish and allow water to shed in the direction of the post.
These panels can be painted with a breathable stain or paint. It is recommended that any vegetation is cut down where the acoustic fencing is to be installed and do not install where they may sit in water.
The timber acoustic barriers have a 30 years desired service life offered by the manufacturer and are designed to be maintenance free, subject to correct installation. Check with a structural engineer for wind loading for your specific location.
These panels not only enhance aesthetics but also provide an effective solution for addressing excessive and unwanted noise in various applications, including residential, education, transport, commercial, and industrial sectors. In addition to noise management, acoustic fence panels offer increased privacy and a more aesthetically pleasing alternative to industrial-styled security fencing.
Our EchoReflect Panels are also available in 2.0m high and 2.4m high.
