3.6m x 100 x 100mm Knee Rail Fencing Top Rail Kit
Product Description
3.6m x 100 x 100mm Knee Rail Fencing Top Rail
Knee Rail Fencing is a simple and attractive way to define boundaries while maintaining clear sightlines. Its low-level design is ideal for separating areas without creating a visually imposing barrier. Using the traditional birdsmouth jointing technique, horizontal timber rails are securely fitted to vertical posts to create a strong and durable structure.
Please note: Timber Knee Rail Fencing does not meet the specifications for highway use.
Strong Birdsmouth Construction
The birdsmouth joint uses a precisely cut notch in the timber rail, allowing it to sit securely onto the vertical post. This creates a strong connection between the rails and posts. Knee Rail Fencing is typically installed at around 450mm or 600mm high, making it easy to step over while clearly defining boundaries and discouraging access to areas such as lawns, flower beds and designated parking spaces.
Durable Tanalith E Timber
The 3.6m top rail is manufactured from 100 x 100mm Norway Spruce timber and treated with Tanalith E Green, a copper-based timber treatment designed to improve resistance to decay and outdoor conditions. The timber is supplied by a reputable UK sawmill, with timber predominantly felled in North Wales. FSC certification is available on request. As the treated timber weathers, its colour will naturally change from pale green to honey and eventually to a silvery grey.
Available Sizes & Components
First Fence also offers a 1.8m version and a smaller 75 x 75mm top rail option. Complete your Knee Rail Fencing with:
- Birdsmouth posts
- Galvanised fencing straps
- Galvanised nails
- Matching top rails
For the 100 x 100mm top rail, the Bishop's Hat style strap is recommended.
For 75 x 75mm rails, choose either the V-style or Shoe-style strap.
Ideal for Public Spaces
Knee Rail Fencing provides a cost-effective way to organise and define outdoor spaces, including:
- Car parks
- Pathways and walkways
- Lawns and flower beds
- Parks and public spaces
- Designated parking areas
- Pedestrian areas
It offers clear boundary definition without significantly restricting visibility, making it particularly useful where high-security fencing isn't required.
In-Ground Installation
Knee Rail Fencing is designed for in-ground installation. Posts should be installed at approximately 1.8m centres and secured using Post Mix. For a typical 450–600mm high installation, approximately half of the post length should be buried in the ground, with a minimum of two bags of post mix per post recommended. Although the timber is pressure treated, applying additional wood treatment to exposed ends is recommended to provide further protection and help extend the lifespan of the fencing.
