Product Description

1.8m x 100 x 100mm Knee Rail Fencing Top Rail

The 1.8m x 100 x 100mm Knee Rail Fencing Top Rail is a strong timber component designed for use with Knee Rail Fencing systems. Its low-level design provides clear boundary demarcation while maintaining visibility, making it ideal for car parks, pathways, walkways, gardens and public spaces where high-security fencing isn't required.

Knee Rail Fencing uses a traditional birdsmouth joint, where the horizontal rail fits securely into a notch in the supporting post. This creates a strong connection between the rail and post while maintaining the simple, attractive appearance of the system.

Please note: Timber knee rails do not meet the specifications for highway use.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 1.8m long top rail
  • 100 x 100mm timber section
  • Tanalith E Green-treated timber
  • Designed for use with birdsmouth posts and straps
  • Suitable for low-level boundary demarcation
  • Ideal for car parks, pathways, walkways and landscaped areas
  • Available in 3.6m and 75 x 75mm alternatives
  • Supplied by a reputable UK timber sawmill
  • FSC certification available on request

Tanalith E Green-Treated Timber

These top rails are manufactured from Norway Spruce and treated with Tanalith E Green, a copper-based timber preservative designed to improve resistance to decay and outdoor conditions.

The timber develops a natural appearance over time, typically changing from pale green to honey and eventually a silvery-grey colour.

For additional protection, particularly on cut or exposed ends, we recommend applying a suitable wood treatment.

Complete Your Knee Rail System

First Fence supplies everything needed to create a complete Knee Rail Fencing system, including:

  • 100 x 100mm and 75 x 75mm timber top rails
  • Birdsmouth posts
  • Galvanised knee rail straps
  • Fixings and nails

For the 100 x 100mm top rail, the Bishop's Hat style strap is recommended due to the overhang on the birdsmouth post. The 75 x 75mm rail requires straight straps.

Installation

Knee Rail Fencing is designed for in-ground installation, with posts typically positioned at 1.8m centres. Systems are generally installed at 450mm or 600mm high, with approximately half of the post length set into the ground.

Use Post Mix to securely fix the posts in place. We recommend a minimum of 1.5 bags of post mix per post.
