When it comes to children and young people, ensuring their safety is of utmost importance. The PlaySecure® Single Gate Kit is designed as a child-friendly solution for creating a safe and secure entry and exit point in a fenced area of a park or playground. It is ideal for use with First Fence's EnviroRail® Bow Top Fencing. The PlaySecure® gate provides parents and guardians with greater confidence in the safety of the environments where children play.
The PlaySecure® gate is designed to comply with RoSPA regulations, which aim to prevent accidents and ensure child safety. Crafted from pre-galvanised steel and available in standard yellow or red powder coating, the PlaySecure® gate by First Fence is perfect for enhancing safety and security in parks, playgrounds, and other child-centric environments. These gates are designed for digging into the ground and require two bags of Post Mix per post to ensure a sturdy and reliable installation.
The swing direction of PlaySecure® gates is universal and determined by retrofitting the slam plate. This implies that the gates adhere to the recommendation for gates to primarily swing outward, unless there's a hazard such as a bench, swing, or nearby dangerous road. Additionally, it aids in preventing dogs from entering the play area.
With a 1.2m opening and a height of 1.2m, this gate comfortably meets the RoSPA recommendation for park gates to be at least 1.0m wide at the opening, allowing for the passage of pushchairs and wheelchairs.
Each gate is equipped with a self-closing mechanism, enabling automatic closure and latching. This self-closer comes with adjustable speed settings to ensure that the closing action does not exceed the recommended five seconds, thereby reducing the risk of the moving gate leaf striking a child's back.
One notable feature of the First Fence PlaySecure® single gate is the spacious 40mm clearance between the hinge post and gate leaf, adhering to RoSPA's recommendation for gaps greater than 12mm to prevent finger entrapment. Additionally, the gate's ground clearance after installation is 60mm, aiding in minimising foot injuries.
The safety tether ensures that the gate remains secure in the rare event of hinge failure, preventing it from falling and potentially causing serious injury to a child. This feature ensures compliance with BS EN 12604 standards.
The gate edges are smooth, and it boasts a sleek, brightly coloured polyester powder-coated finish. This coating not only helps prevent rust formation, a hazard in itself, but also serves as an indicator that the gate may eventually deteriorate structurally, posing a safety risk.
Strong 13mm self-adhesive 3M tapered rubber pads are supplied to deaden noise and reduce the risk of finger entrapment. Position them above 700mm from the ground as per safety recommendations.
It is advisable for gates to be coloured differently from the fencing to clearly distinguish the entrance and exit points of the park, aiding those with impaired vision. It's also recommended to have two gates in case one becomes blocked for any reason.
Playgrounds and Parks: To ensure a safe environment for children, RoSPA-compliant gates are installed to prevent unsupervised access to playgrounds, particularly those located near busy roads or other hazardous areas.
School Grounds: These gates are used to control access to school premises, ensuring children's safety by preventing unauthorised entry.
Sports Facilities: Gates are installed at sports complexes to manage access to potentially dangerous areas that require proper supervision, such as fields, courts, and equipment storage areas.
Public Gardens and Parks: In public recreational areas, these gates help control access to certain sections, ensuring that children do not wander into unsafe zones.
Residential Areas: Homeowners with children often install RoSPA-compliant gates around their property to secure swimming pools, garden ponds, and driveways.
