When it comes to children and young people, safety is paramount. The PlaySecure® Single Gate Kit has been designed as a child-friendly solution to creating a safe and secure entry and exit point to a fenced area of a park or playground and is ideal for use with First Fence's EnviroRail® Bow Top Fencing. With the PlaySecure® gate, parents and guardians can have greater confidence in the safety of the environments where children play.
The PlaySecure® gate has been designed to comply with RoSPA regulations, which are aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring child safety.
Manufactured from pre-galvanised steel and powder coated in yellow or red as standard, the PlaySecure® gate from First Fence is ideal for ensuring safety and security in parks, playgrounds and other child-centric environments. These gates are dig-in only and require two bags of Post Mix per post for a strong, dependable installation.
The PlaySecure® gates have a universal swing direction, dictated by the retrofitting of the slam plate. This means that the gates conform to the requirement for gates to preferably swing outwards unless a hazard such as a bench, play swing or nearby dangerous road is present. This also helps prevent dogs from entering the play area.
With a 1.2m opening, this gate easily conforms to the RoSPA recommendation that park gates be at least 1.0m at the opening, which is to allow pushchairs and wheelchairs through.
Each gate features a self-closing mechanism which allows it to automatically close and latch. This self-closer has an adjustable speed, ensuring that the closing action does not exceed the recommendation of five seconds, which should prevent the moving gate leaf from striking a child's back.
A feature of the First Fence PlaySecure® single gate is the large 40mm clearing between the hinge post and gate leaf, which will prevent finger entrapment as per the RoSPA recommendation of gaps greater than 12mm. The ground clearance of the installed gate is 60mm to help reduce foot injuries.
The safety tether keeps the gate safe in the unlikely event of a hinge failure, preventing it from falling and causing serious injury to a child. This feature makes the gate compliant with BS EN 12604.
The gate edges are smooth, and the gate has a sleek, brightly coloured polyester powder coated finish. This coating helps prevent the formation of rust, which is a hazard itself, but also indicates the gate may eventually become structurally disintegrated and no longer be safe.
Strong 13mm self-adhesive 3M tapered rubber pads are supplied to deaden noise and reduce the risk of finger entrapment. Position them above 700mm from the ground as per safety recommendations.
Gates are recommended to be coloured differently from the fencing to help clearly identify the entrance and exit to the park and assist those with reduced vision. It is recommended to have two gates should one become blocked for any reason.
Playgrounds and Parks: To ensure a safe environment for children, RoSPA-compliant gates are installed to prevent unsupervised access to playgrounds, particularly those located near busy roads or other hazardous areas.
School Grounds: These gates are used to control access to school premises, ensuring children's safety by preventing unauthorised entry and exit.
Sports Facilities: Gates are installed at sports complexes to manage access to potentially dangerous areas that require proper supervision, such as fields, courts, and equipment storage areas.
Public Gardens and Parks: In public recreational areas, these gates help control access to certain sections, ensuring that children do not wander into unsafe zones.
Residential Areas: Homeowners with children often install RoSPA-compliant gates around their property to secure swimming pools, garden ponds, and driveways.
