Knee rail fencing, also known as birdsmouth fencing, is a type of fencing characterised by its distinctive design featuring horizontal rails joined to vertical posts with notched joints. A V-style strap for the 75 x 75mm top rail is available from First Fence. Made from galvanised steel, it will be able to withstand the rigours of the weather and comes with pre-drilled holes to make the task of fixing it much more efficient. Galvanised nails are also available to add to your purchase.

Strap Installation

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use straight straps to fix knee rails together:

• Prepare the Knee Rails: Ensure the knee rails you intend to join are clean and free from debris or obstacles that might hinder the strapping process.
• Positioning: Decide on the positioning of the knee rails. Place them in the desired alignment, ensuring they are flush and even at the connecting point.
• Attach the Straps: Take the straps and place them over the joint where the knee rails meet. Make sure the straps cover the entire width of the connection for optimal support.
• Securing with Nails: Use nails to secure the straight straps onto the knee rails. Holes are pre-drilled uniformly along the strap for ultimate support.
• Check Stability: After securing the straight straps, check the stability of the joint by gently applying pressure. Ensure there is no excessive movement or looseness in the connection. The straps should hold the knee rails firmly together.
