There is an appeal to wooden log houses that is enduring; there is a warmth and character found in no other building material. Each piece of wood has its own unique colours, textures and grains that suggests the passage of time that has created it. It has a rustic charm that makes a building feel cosy and inviting, and of course it smells wonderful too.
A 5m x 4m wooden garden house is ideal for the home that needs some extra space, whether that is for storage, or for creating a home gym, a meditation or yoga studio, a workshop or, as is increasingly seen as essential, a home office.
This wooden log cabin style is made from quality European Spruce. Spruce is well-regarded for its inherent strength and durability. Its grain pattern is straight which makes it less susceptible to warping, and it is quite lightweight so is easy to handle and transport, and very suitable for self-assembly projects. Spruce is also a sustainable resource that grows quite quickly and well-managed forests can supply large quantities of timber with no negative effects on the stock.
This 5m x 4m 'Dickens' Timber Garden House available from First Fence has a wall thickness of 44mm which means it is more suited to a year-round-use building, particularly if insulation/electricity is installed. It has a flat roof and a generous sized overhanging canopy or awning to the front that keeps the interior protected from direct sunlight. The doors are double glazed as are the two full-length windows that flank either side of the door, this glazing affords the interior with generous amounts of natural light, as well as cutting down external noise.
This product comes in a flat-pack format and requires home assembly which is relatively straightforward if you have some construction skills. It is important that this building is erected onto a very solid, flat base such as concrete or slabs to ensure a sound installation. You may also need a spirit level, tape measure, power drill/screwdriver and a rubber mallet to gently manipulate the wall beams into place.
Once installed it will need painting or staining within 5 weeks, it will also require periodical maintenance, as all outdoor timber structures do due to the effects of wind, rain and sunlight, so it is a good idea to position this in your garden so that you have access to all four walls.
A range of wooden garden buildings is available from First Fence in different styles and sizes, why not take a look?
