Product Description

PastureGuard® Badger Gate

Protect your boundaries without blocking nature. The PastureGuard® Badger Gate is a premium, professional-grade solution engineered to integrate into wire fencing and hard landscaping. By providing a dedicated, reinforced passage for badgers, you maintain the structural integrity of your perimeter while fulfilling conservation obligations.

Stop the cycle of ‘snag and tear’ repairs. With PastureGuard®, you can slash maintenance costs and ensure your livestock, equine, or forestry fencing remains secure and compliant.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Industrial-Grade Durability: Made from 4mm thick high-grade steel, this gate is built to withstand the repetitive force of badger activity and the harshest agricultural environments.
  • Weather-Resistant Dual-Layer Coating: Available with a galvanised and powder-coated finish. This dual-layer protection offers industry-leading corrosion resistance, essential for damp, ground-level installations.
  • Precision Engineering: At 450 mm x 759 mm, the frame is sized to accommodate adult badgers comfortably while fitting perfectly within standard fence heights.
  • Cost-Effective Maintenance: Eliminates the primary cause of fence sagging and wire breakage by directing wildlife through a controlled point rather than under or through your mesh.
  • Intuitive Free-Swing Design: The frictionless hinge mechanism ensures badgers adapt quickly to the gate, reducing stress for the animal and preventing them from seeking new, destructive paths.

Versatile Applications

  • Livestock Farming: Protects expensive sheep/cattle wire from persistent breach points.
  • Conservation & Forestry: Maintains exclusion zones while allowing protected species passage.
  • Equine Facilities: Prevents dangerous wire holes that cause horse hoof entanglements.
  • Sett Exclusion: Can be configured as a one-way exit for humane land management.
  • Development Sites: Ensures sites are safely cleared of wildlife before construction.
  • Dry Stone Walls: Provide a reinforced opening that prevents wall collapse.

Installation Guide: Integrating Into Wire Fencing

Installing a badger gate is about maintaining wire tension. Follow these steps to ensure a secure fit:

  1. Identify the Run: Place the gate exactly on established badger paths (look for hair snags or excavations).
  2. Position the Frame: Set the base 25 mm–50 mm into the ground to prevent badgers from digging underneath the gate.
  3. Aperture Cutting: Cut the wire mesh to the gate's internal dimensions.
  4. Pro Tip: Leave 50mm ‘tails’ on the horizontal wires to wrap around the frame for extra security.
  5. Secure & Tension: Use galvanised staples to fix the frame to wooden posts, and high-tensile gripples to lash cut wire ends to the steel frame to prevent sagging.
  6. Ground Anchoring: Drive the pointed posts and ground pins into the earth. For soft soil, a small amount of rapid-set post mix is recommended.
  7. The ‘Bedding In’ Period: Pin the gate open for 2–3 nights. Once the badgers are habituated to the gap, release the flap to its free-swinging position.
  8. Legal Note: Under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992, ensure your fencing does not interfere with an active sett. Always consult local ecological guidelines during installation.
