Drilling into tough substances like concrete, stone or brick requires a particular kind of drill bit that has been developed for working with masonry. A standard bit for use with metal and wood will not be sturdy enough to create holes in such hard materials, so it is important to choose a masonry drill bit.
This SDS (slotted drive shaft) drill bit is 12mm in diameter and has a length of 210mm. It locks securely into the drill by the notch down its length, this gives a significant advantage over the standard cylindrical connection as it forms a firm link which assures the drill can endure the forces of drilling into masonry.
A tungsten carbide tip ensures this drill bit will stay sharper much longer than regular drill bits and delivers effective drilling. This bit is suitable for internal and external wall construction.
Masonry drill bits are easy to identify by their arrowhead-shape, they look similar to a twist drill however they have a tighter corkscrew shape. The tip is a larger diameter than the shaft of the bit, this ensures that when the shaft reaches the drilled hole is will fit into it to continue its drill path.
These bits are to be used with SDS+ rotary percussion or hammer drills. It is possible to use them with a regular drill, however it will be less efficient as it lacks the hammer action that breaks the masonry and only uses its own turning speed. The tip can help decrease the noise level during use and reduce the event of chipping or cracking.
