Timber Post and Rail fencing is a timeless and versatile design with a rich history of usage. This classic fencing style features upright posts providing support for horizontal rails, creating a simple yet effective barrier. Its popularity lies in the charmingly rustic appearance and natural appeal that timber brings to various settings.
Constructed by embedding posts into the ground for stability, this timber fencing style utilises horizontal rails to connect the posts, forming the framework. The number of rails can vary, typically ranging from two to three, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing pattern.
Multiple wood options, such as cedar, pine, spruce, and redwood, can be used for Post and Rail fencing. Its straightforward design makes it an excellent choice for demarcating boundaries, especially in rural or agricultural environments to contain livestock or mark property lines. In residential areas, it serves decorative purposes and creates a natural-looking border that complements different architectural styles and landscapes.
Timber Post and Rail fencing, known for its simplicity and effectiveness, is a cost-effective choice compared to other fencing materials.
First Fence stocks all you need for your new Post and Rail fencing run including this 2.1m long x 125mm x 75mm timber post.
The Timber Post is of rough sawn timber made from Norway Spruce (Picea Abies or Sitka Spruce), primarily harvested in North Wales. The timber is obtained from an FSC Approved Supplier, ensuring that the forest is managed in a way that preserves biodiversity, promotes the welfare of local communities and workers, and ensures its long-term economic viability. Forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) adhere to stringent standards covering environmental, social, and economic aspects.
The timber post also comes as a 1.8m height and both are a dig in format so will require Post Mix to firmly secure it into the ground (2 bags per post are recommended). For the 1.5m system you will need to dig in 600mm of this 2.1m post. The horizontal rail which affixes to the installed posts with 100mm x 4.5mm Round Wire Nails, is available as a 3.6m long x 87mm x 38mm format. One post per 1.8m of fencing plus one post at the end of the run is recommended.
Regular maintenance is necessary to ensure the longevity of this type of Post and Rail fence which may include staining or painting the timber to protect it from the elements. Inspecting and repairing any damaged or rotten components is important to keep the fence in good condition.
Did you know, it's easy to fix roll mesh to post and rail for easy animal deterrent. Additionally, post and rail can deter unauthorised access onto private land with simple barbed wire installation.
