Intermediate strainer posts play a vital role in agricultural fencing. Stronger and more durable than standard line posts, they are built to withstand wire tension and preserve the fence’s structure. When placed at key points along the fence line, they enhance overall stability and support long-term durability.
This intermediate strainer post kit contains one 2.4m x 125/150mm strainer post and two 2.4m x 75/100mm struts. Crafted using the Cundy peeling method, which strips the bark while retaining the wood’s natural taper, each piece has a rustic appearance with a varying diameter along its length (e.g. 150/175mm). The timber is tanalised and pressure-treated to UC4 standards or creosoted, offering durable, long-term protection against rot, fungal decay, and insect damage.
Struts are angled supports installed between the strainer post and the ground to provide crucial reinforcement, preventing the post from leaning or being pulled out of position under tension. Traditionally, strainer posts are driven into the ground and secured with backfill, while struts are typically set in concrete using a quick-setting product like post mix for added stability.
This type of wooden fence post is ideal for livestock fencing, hiking trails, farm property boundaries and also in non-agricultural settings. Agricultural, garden or security fencing, tree support helping to secure young trees, landscaping etc. Timber is a strong material and is durable and long-lasting in outdoor settings. It is relatively easy to handle and install, which is useful in rural or remote areas.
