Solid Wall Lintels: What You Need to Know

At First Fence, our Solid Wall Lintel range is engineered for structural openings in solid masonry walls, such as brick or block walls of approximately 200–215 mm thickness. These lintels provide robust support for windows and doors, and other penetrations in both internal and external solid wall constructions

Key Products

SW/K Standard Load Solid Wall Lintel

Built from pre-galvanised steel, with thickness increasing from 2.5 mm (spans up to 1.5 m) to 3.0 mm (spans up to 2.7 m). Solid Wall Keystone Lintels are a good option for standard load-bearing in solid wall applications.

Available lengths from 750 mm to 2700 mm.

Box Lintel Range (BOX/K‑XXX)

Standard-load box lintels tailored for solid wall openings, available in heights of 75 mm, 150 mm, and 215 mm.

Suitable for standard load scenarios where thermal insulation or toe-bearing features may be needed.

Heavy‑Duty Box Lintels (HDBOX/K‑XXX)

Built using thicker steel for enhanced load capacity.

Available in heights of 150 mm and 215 mm.

Ideal where heavier masonry, roof, or floor loads must be supported.

Single Leaf Heavy‑Duty Lintels (SL/K)

Designed for heavier-duty uses within solid walls, in 150 mm or 225 mm heights.

Suitable for installations needing robust support but without the full box profile.

Applications & Structural Use

These lintels are crafted to handle masonry, timber floor loads, roof truss/attic loads, and point loads where applicable (though manufacturer load tables or engineering input are essential for precise

specification).

They’re suitable for both internal and external solid wall openings, depending on the model.

Solid walls are typically 200–215 mm thick and lack a cavity layer. Both box-format lintels (complete with a toe for outer leaf support) and inverted‑T style lintels may be used; First Fence’s offerings focus on the box style with toe support, which is particularly effective for external solid wall applications .

Building Standards & Compliance

All products are manufactured from pre-galvanised steel to resist corrosion and weather exposure.

Each lintel is tested to relevant BS EN standards to ensure reliability and performance.

Size Guide & Bearing Requirements

Proper sizing depends on the span of the opening, plus typically a 150 mm bearing on each end, and bedding in mortar to ensure load distribution.

Wall width should match lintel width, First Fence offers options for common solid wall widths, including 100 mm, 150 mm, and 200 mm.

Why Choose First Fence Solid Wall Lintels?

  • Tailored Fit: Options in both standard and heavy-duty box sections, heights, and wall thickness compatibility.
  • Quick Availability: Typical lead time around two weeks, helping you stay on schedule
  • Structural & Thermal Compliance: Engineered in line with UK building regulations and structural standards.
  • Durability: Galvanised steel with-duty design ensures long-term resistance in exposed conditions.

Tips for Specifying & Installing

  1. Measure your wall thickness and structural opening span accurately.
  2. Identify the load type: whether it’s masonry only, roof joists, or point loads.
  3. Allow for proper end bearing: usually 150 mm at each end.
  4. Bed the lintel in mortar and ensure it is level and properly supported before applying loads.
