Product Description

Timber Intermediate Strainer Post Kit to Suit 80cm to 120cm Fencing Creosoted

If you’re looking for a strong and traditional fencing option, our timber posts and stock fencing provide a natural, long-lasting solution that’s perfectly suited to farms, fields, and rural properties. Crafted with care and designed to endure, these posts balance durability with a classic countryside aesthetic.

Why Choose Timber Posts & Stock Fencing?

  • Built to Last: Solid timber posts create a reliable framework, while high-tensile wire netting withstands pressure and movement.
  • Cost-Effective: More affordable than metal alternatives, without compromising on strength.
  • Easy to Work With: Simple installation and maintenance, requiring only basic tools.
  • Versatile: Suitable for keeping animals secure, crop protection, boundary marking, and more.
  • Eco-Conscious: Produced from responsibly sourced timber with a lower energy footprint than steel fencing.

About the Intermediate Strainer Post Kit

Strainer posts are the backbone of agricultural fencing. Positioned at key intervals, they are tougher than ordinary line posts and designed to carry the tension of wires, helping your fence stay upright and dependable for years.

This kit includes:

  • 1 x Strainer Post – 2.4m long, 150–175mm tapered diameter
  • 2 x Struts – 2.4m long, 75–100mm tapered diameter

Each piece is made using the Cundy peel process, which strips away the bark while preserving the post’s natural taper for a rustic look. As a result, measurements such as 150/175mm reflect natural variations in thickness along the length. The posts and struts are pressure-treated to UC4 standard for protection against rot, decay, and insect damage.

Struts act as angled supports, bracing the main strainer post and preventing it from leaning under wire tension. For best results, strainer posts are driven into the ground and backfilled, while struts are generally fixed into place with post mix concrete.

Creosote Treatment: What You Should Know

Creosote is a traditional wood preservative that provides excellent protection and a distinctive finish. However, it should not be used in areas with frequent skin contact, near livestock handling, edible plants, or close to waterways. Always check local guidelines before use to ensure suitability.

Common Uses

This fencing kit is perfect for:

  • Agricultural fencing for livestock
  • Marking farm and estate boundaries
  • Protecting crops and woodland edges
  • Rural paths and trails
  • Supporting young trees and landscaping projects

Timber is naturally strong, easy to work with, and well-suited to outdoor environments, especially in remote or rural settings.

More Options from First Fence

Alongside strainer posts and stock fencing, First Fence supplies:

  • Wire stock fencing rolls
  • High tensile barbed wire
  • Timber post & rail systems (including knee rail designs)
  • Recycled plastic fencing with the appearance of timber, but enhanced strength and longevity
