Bollards for Staffordshire Mechanical Solutions

Location: Birmingham

Project: Bollards

Background & Context

Project Scope: The site already had manual commercial gates and automatic entry/exit barriers to two areas of a car park for an industrial site. The site has been sold, and the new owners are looking to make the site more secure.

Industry: Our client was doing a refit of the warehouse space both internally and externally, while also tasked with ‘beefing up’ the security for the car park zones for both visitors and staff when the new owners move in.

Initial Challenges: The main car park area already had in/out automatic barriers, so the client wanted to keep them but also have something that can either operate simultaneously with the barriers, or offer a single level of daytime security if they want to leave the barriers up during normal operating hours.

Objectives

Project Benchmarks: The customer wanted something aesthetically pleasing but also robust and built to last. Ideally, with visibility aids for the darker hours of operation.

Time Frame: As part of a much larger project, the time frame wasn’t really a factor.

Limitations: The products had to work with the existing barrier systems and also the existing access control.

Key Challenges: Adding a safety system to the site was a necessity due to the additional automatic products and the fact that the end user wasn’t yet sure how they wanted everything to operate.

Approach & Strategy

Our approach: We suggested Benito automatic bollards for all three of the sections. It is a brand we work with; we know the quality of the product and that they can easily be integrated into an existing security system from an operational standpoint.

Bespoke requirements: We offered the Benito H6008, as these come with red/green indicator lights as standard, which was paramount to meet the end user requirement of enhanced visibility during darker operating times. Also, with them being stainless steel, they offer a smart, aesthetically pleasing finished look.

Responsibility: Our customer, Staffordshire Mechanical, did all the groundwork, ducting, and drainage for the bollards. Once completed, we went in and set up all three systems and integrated to the existing barrier systems at two of the locations. We also fitted loop detectors for safety around all three sets of bollards.

Key Resources: Working closely with a couple of suppliers and also our trade customer to get dates and specific site requirements was key; this enabled us to work to set dates and ensure all work was carried out promptly.

Solution

First Fence Supplied: 7 x Benito H6008 Stainless Steel Hydraulic bollards, to work across 3 different areas of a car park. Plus 3 x Procon 24v loop detectors, one for each section. These are our go-to safety option when fitting automatic bollards. The Benito H6008 is certified to PAS68, meaning a very high level of anti-ram security was given to the site.

Expectations: The end user required a robust product that could be integrated into their existing systems and also offer great visibility and enhanced security.

Lessons Learnt: No lessons to be learnt on this one from our end. But the advice we can offer, when looking at automatic bollards, a key factor is to make sure drainage is installed, as the last thing you want is the bollards living underwater!

“From start to finish, communication was brilliant from the First Fence Automation Team. Our enquiry was handled by Ethan, who took site requirements and details and then came back a few hours later with a quote. When the order was placed, Jonny rang us to go over the final specification so we knew exactly where to put the ducting and control panel locations. Finally, Jason managed the install and gave our guys some great tips for the groundwork and drainage requirements.”
