Project: Last Minute Temporary Fencing

Project Details:

It’s 8 am on a Saturday morning in the heart of Birmingham. The city is buzzing, even more so than usual. Heavy metal pilgrims are descending on the city, the birthplace of Black Sabbath, for a landmark concert. But amidst the sea of band t-shirts and rising excitement, a different kind of drama is unfolding. A major roof repair project is scheduled, and two enormous cranes are already positioned, ready to lift vital materials into place. There’s just one problem: the temporary fencing, essential for securing the site and ensuring public safety, is nowhere to be seen. The customer’s supplier has failed to deliver.

This is the kind of call that tests a company’s mettle. A phone rings at our Tipton depot. On the other end is a frantic project manager, facing the prospect of a costly delay and a significant safety hazard in a packed city centre.

Enter Paul Houston, our Tipton Depot Manager. For Paul and his team, a weekend call-out isn't a problem; it's a call to action.

"When it comes to public areas, we know safety is essential," Paul explains. "And when a customer's current temporary fence supplier failed to get the job done last minute, we knew the team in blue had to have their back."

The complexity of the situation couldn't be overstated. Navigating through a city centre bustling with concert-goers to deliver bulky fencing is a challenge on any day, let alone a Saturday morning. But this is where true service shines.

The First Fence team mobilised with incredible speed. By 9 am, just an hour after the initial call, the order was processed, and payment was sorted. By 11 am, our truck was on-site, navigating the Birmingham streets to deliver the full consignment of round-top temporary fencing panels, heavy-duty blocks, and secure couplers. The site was secured, the cranes could begin their work, and the public was kept safe.

Our team was packed up and heading home in time for lunch.

"This is what service means to us," says Paul. "It's about prioritising those who need help, and quickly. It’s not just about selling a product; it’s about delivering a solution and peace of mind, especially when the pressure is on."

While Black Sabbath were the main event in Birmingham that day, for one customer, the real superheroes were the "team in blue" from First Fence, who turned a potential crisis into a seamless operation. It’s a testament to the dedication of our depot managers and their teams, who are ready to go the extra mile, ensuring that no matter the challenge, the job gets done safely and efficiently.
