PlaySecure® 1.0m x 2.9m Wide Machine Access Double Railing Playground Gate Kit with Hydraulic Closer
In managed play environments, safety and accessibility must work together. While protecting children is the primary focus, rapid emergency access is also essential.
The PlaySecure® Machine Access Gate provides a wide 2.9m opening, significantly exceeding the 2.15m minimum width required for ambulance access. Designed specifically for playground environments, this double-leaf gate system includes the APS after-welded hydraulic closing system, allowing larger gate leaves to close with a controlled, gentle motion that supports RoSPA compliance.
This gate is supplied as a dig-in only system and requires three bags of Post Mix per post for installation.

Integrated APS Hydraulic Closers
Unlike standard spring hinges, the APS hydraulic closing system is designed to manage the weight of wider gate leaves. Adjustable speed settings allow the gate to close smoothly within the recommended 5-second closing window, preventing the leaf from swinging shut too quickly and reducing the risk of injury.
Dual-Leaf Configuration
The gate includes a 1.2m primary leaf and 1.7m secondary leaf, offering flexible access. The primary leaf functions as a daily pedestrian entrance, while opening both leaves creates the full 2.9m access width required for emergency vehicles and maintenance machinery.
Secure Access Control
A heavy-duty drop bolt secures the secondary leaf in place when not in use. The system is also padlockable, helping restrict unauthorised vehicle access while still allowing entry when required.
RoSPA & BS EN 12604 Compliant
This gate is engineered for child-focused environments, incorporating safety features, including:
- 40mm anti-trap gap between the leaf and post (exceeding the 12mm minimum)
- 60mm ground clearance to help prevent foot injuries
Fail-Safe Safety Tethers
Each gate leaf includes a safety tether. In the unlikely event of hinge failure, the tether prevents the gate from falling, reducing the risk of injury and supporting BS EN 12604 compliance.
Universal Swing Orientation
A retrofitted slam plate allows the gate to be installed with a universal swing direction. RoSPA recommends outward-swinging gates where possible to help prevent unleashed dogs from entering play areas, provided there are no external hazards such as roads or benches.
Durable, High-Visibility Finish
Manufactured from pre-galvanised steel and finished with a polyester powder coating, the gate offers excellent corrosion resistance while providing clear visual identification of the access point for users with visual impairments.
Noise & Impact Reduction
The kit includes 13mm 3M tapered rubber pads, which help:
- Reduce closing noise
- Absorb impact
- Provide additional finger-trap protection
