Ensure the safety and preservation of trees during construction and development with our robust FirstShield Tree Protection Fencing System, designed using heavy-duty scaffold poles and mesh panels. Engineered to meet the requirements of BS 5837:2012, this fencing solution establishes a secure Tree Protection Zone (TPZ), safeguarding roots, trunks, and canopies from accidental damage.
The FirstShield Tree Protection system is designed to safeguard trees during construction or other activities that could potentially harm by creating a barrier around them. This tree protection barrier uses a series of sturdy and durable scaffold poles and couplers to provide a strong framework. Temporary fencing panels can be attached to the scaffold poles to form a physical barrier. Please note that this kit is for the frame structure only; temporary fencing panels or similar are not included.
The FirstShield tree safeguarding system has an assembled width of 6400mm and a height of 3048mm. The posts are at 3.0m (maximum) post centres with a minimum of 600mm in the ground. The protective barrier should be erected at the outer edge of the Root Protection Area of the trees to be protected.
Multiple kits can be assembled and attached together to form a fence line of the desired length.
This system is designed to be driven into soft ground. The BS 5837 does not recommend the use of concrete as it may cause damage to the Root Protection Area of the trees. Concrete may compact the soil, which is detrimental to tree roots. Also, as it is an alkaline material, it may alter soil pH and introduce chemicals into the soil. This system is a temporary measure, driving the vertical scaffold poles into the soil, and the horizontal and diagonal bracing (securely fixed with couplers) forms a rigid structure. If you need to build your system on hard standing, a weighted base system would be more appropriate.
Durable Construction: Built using galvanised scaffold poles for maximum strength and longevity.
Modular Design: Easy to install, adjust, and dismantle, making it ideal for temporary or long-term use on construction sites.
Customisable Layout: Available in standard sizes or tailored configurations to suit project-specific tree protection plans.
Controlled Work Environment: Helps contractors plan operations by establishing a boundary/no-go area.
Safeguarding Root Protection Areas: Prevents soil compaction, contamination and disturbance within the critical root zone, which is vital for tree health and stability.
Protecting Trunks and Lower Canopies: Prevents mechanical damage from vehicles, machinery or construction materials.
Our scaffold pole fencing offers superior strength and visibility compared to lightweight alternatives, making it the preferred choice of arborists, contractors, and planning authorities. Whether you need to protect a single specimen tree or multiple trees across a large site, this system ensures compliance, peace of mind, and long-term tree health.
