Not all heroes wear capes! First Fence supports Road Safety Week

Each year, one of the big initiatives we throw ourselves behind here at First Fence is Road Safety Week.

And this year is no different!

Co-ordinated annually by Brake, Road Safety Week is the UK's biggest road safety event during which thousands of schools, organisations and communities get involved to shout out for our right to make safe and healthy journeys every day.

Each year, the initiative aims to raise awareness around a particular theme and this year, we’re helping celebrate Road Safety Heroes.

Between Monday 15 November and Sunday 21 November, we will be celebrating anyone and everyone that goes above and beyond to keep our roads safe, from our school crossing patrols and emergency services to the highway engineers that work tirelessly to keep our roads operational all year round.

Figures from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) during 2020 showed that the UK has the second safest roads in all of Europe.

The truth is, though, that anyone can be a Road Safety Hero. We all have a part to play in ensuring our roads are as safe as possible.

Speaking about the Road Safety Week, Vinny Kotecha, Director at First Fence, said: “As a business, celebrating initiatives like this is hugely important to us. Brake does a fantastic job each year of raising awareness of road safety and the different themes behind it.

“Over the last 18 months - with everything that has been happening - communities have come together more to celebrate the people that make a difference, no matter how big or small, and this year’s theme of Road Safety Heroes falls perfectly into that.

“There are a lot of people in a large variety of different roles that go above and beyond to make our roads safe, whether it be a busy motorway or a quiet town street that goes by a busy school. It’s these people that often don’t get the recognition or the thanks they deserve in such important roles.

“So, during this Road Safety Week, be sure to celebrate those unsung heroes who all contribute to make our roads one of the safest across Europe!”
