Excessive noise can interfere with communication and recreational activities and, in severe cases, lead to hearing loss or mental health issues. Wooden structures and barriers excel at absorbing and reflecting sound, making them crucial for noise reduction in diverse environments. Timber acoustic fencing barriers not only diminish noise but also elevate outdoor aesthetics, providing a delightful, cosy, and inviting appearance.
First Fence is excited to introduce its latest product line: Timber Acoustic Fencing.
The 4.2m EchoReflect Reflective Acoustic Fencing Kit from First Fence is provided in loose form for convenient on-site assembly. Alternatively, there is the option to choose a pre-assembled version.
Please note, this kit does not come with fixings. For fixing to timber posts you will need 14 M10 x 150mm Coach Screws and approximately 420 64mm stainless steel nails that are appropriate for your own nail gun.
This product is manufactured from Sawn Spruce and may cause splinters.
These sound barriers made of timber deflect noise by utilising surface profiles composed of vertical sawn boards and cover strips. They are secured with horizontal timber rails to minimise any gaps that might allow sound transmission.
The acoustic fencing panels provide installation flexibility, accommodating either wooden or steel posts based on the specific needs of the site. Please select your preferred option and include it with your order.
Timber Acoustic Fencing Kits present a simple solution for homeowners, house builders, and local authorities addressing traffic noise concerns. They are also well-suited for bustling areas or businesses where unwanted noise is a concern.
The acoustic fencing system has undergone independent testing by Salford University, meeting Highways England requirements (BS EN 1793 Road Traffic Noise Reducing Devices). It is also compliant with BS EN 1794-1 and BS EN 1794-2, aligning with Highways Sector Scheme 2C for the prefabrication of environmental barriers.
Made from Tanalised (UC4), pressure-treated timber sourced from an FSC-certified supplier, this wood features a natural pale green colour that integrates seamlessly with its environment. The timber is surface-incised at the manufacturer's site, a crucial step for ensuring optimal preservative protection for ground contact timber.
The loose kit contains Straight Boards, Timber Gravel Board, Capping Rail (50mm tapering to 38mm), Horizontal Rails and Cover Strips. Choose between a timber post kit or an RSJ Steel post (steel posts come with wooden wedges). Please note that this kit does not come with fixings.
Installation itself is straightforward, once the posts are in place (2.4m centres), face-fix the cant rails onto the posts at an equal spacing, securing them using stainless steel nails. Now that the main support structure is in place you can attach the vertical boards. The boards need to be nailed onto the cant rails butted up to each other. Cover strips then need to be attached over the joints where the panels butt up together using stainless steel nails (64mm). Finally, attach the capping rail with stainless steel nails to the top of the fence to provide a neat finish and allow water to shed in the direction of the post.
These panels can be painted with a breathable stain or paint. It is recommended that any vegetation be cut down where the acoustic fencing is to be installed and not installed where it may sit in water.
The timber acoustic barriers have a 30-year desired service life offered by the manufacturer and are designed to be maintenance-free, subject to correct installation. Check with a structural engineer for wind loading for your specific location.
These panels not only improve aesthetics but also effectively reduce excessive and unwanted noise in a variety of settings, including residential, educational, transportation, commercial, and industrial sectors. Besides managing noise, acoustic fence panels offer increased privacy and a more visually appealing alternative to industrial-style security fencing.
Our EchoReflect Panels are also available in a range of heights from 1.8 to 5.0m.
First Fence also has a range called EchoGroove and EchoAbsorb, why not take a look today? Also available are a range of Sound Absorption Barriers and accessories.
