A shim is a thin and sometimes tapered piece of material that is used to fill small gaps or spaces between objects. They can be used to adjust, create a better fit, or level surfaces and are viewed as an important tool in many trades. In the construction trade precision is important and this is where shims come into their own.
Also known as packers, spacers or foils, they can be made from a variety of materials including wood, plastic or metal. They are also made 'ad hoc' from any material that is to hand on a construction site but this is probably not the best way of solving a fitting or levelling issue. While it is tempting to use improvised shims it is much more cost-effective to use a proper product made from high quality material from the outset.
First Fence carries a range of sizes and styles of shims. A solid square variety with the option of a horseshoe cut-out to fit around a bolt is available in a range of depths. These horseshoe shapes are sometimes known as trouser shims due to their shape resembling the legs of a pair of trousers.
Available as a pre-galvanised steel format and in bulks of 50.
