Kissing Gates are a common sight in a rural landscape and are a very recognisable form of gate. In spite of their charming name, they are primarily used on farm land to prevent livestock passing through the space as they never fully open, so they allow pedestrian access while keeping valuable stock safe.
These gates are usually manufactured from timber or galvanised steel and take up less space than a regular leafed gate. The gate can swing and 'kiss' each side of the structure but can never be open fully. There is lots of folklore about the origins of the name 'Kissing Gate' but it is most likely a reference to the way the gate leaf touches or kisses the structure when it is pushed.
These gates are ideal for a smaller area and are a good replacement for a stile which can cause all sorts of access problems and can become slippery when wet or muddy. Depending on where this type of gate is sited, on a footpath or bridleway for example, a larger access format might be needed or a different type of gate altogether if on a public right of way, as Kissing Gates can be restrictive.
This Kissing Gate is available from First Fence in a Pedestrian and a Mobility Kissing Gate format.
This Pedestrian Kissing Gate has an installed height of 1200mm, length in the fenceline of 1850mm and width across the hoops 1400mm. It comes with a Springbolt to latch it in place.
