To protect metal surfaces from rust, corrosion and general weathering then it is important to paint with a good quality and appropriate outdoor direct-to-metal surface paint.
Hammerite Smooth Black Paint is specifically designed to be used on exterior metal as it has excellent rust-resistance properties. It forms a strong, durable barrier that prevents oxygen and moisture from reaching the metal surface which inhibits the formation of rust. This metal surface paint is ideal for iron gates, fences, railings and automotive parts. Hammerite paint is an excellent choice for improving the life expectancy and visual appeal of metal products in your garden.
Outdoor metal paint is designed to withstand harsh weather conditions including intense sunlight, heavy rain or extremes of temperature and provides a sturdy, weatherproof finish that is significantly resistant to fading, peeling or cracking.
Hammerite metal paint is easy to apply with a brush and will give excellent, professional-looking results. This paint is fast drying, is touch-dry after two hours and can be re-coated after four hours.
For rusted surfaces, remove any loose rust with emery paper or a grinder. All surfaces must be dry and free from dirt, dust, grease and salt. For bare metal surfaces degrease with brush cleaner. For shiny, smooth metal surfaces, extra abrasion is needed to ensure paint adhesion and in some cases, primer may be needed especially for galvanised posts.
This metal paint will cover 5m² per litre for two coats. Apply at least two coats leaving at least four hours between. Brushes can be cleaned with a Brush Cleaner type product.
A tin can be stored in its original unopened container for up to two years at 20°C. It should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated area and protected from extremes of temperature.
