This standard load box lintel has been designed for use with either internal or external openings to bear standard loads. These are suitable for walls with a width of 215mm. The lintel also has small perforations along their length which act as a plaster key. The flange of the BOX/K-200 lintel has been designed to support a masonry load of up to 3kN per metre run.
The BOX/K-200 standard load box lintel has been constructed from high quality pre-galvanised mild steel that, depending on the length, is between 1.6mm and 2.0mm in thickness. They have been designed to take the full load of wet masonry as soon as it has been installed.
This range of box lintels is available in 150mm increments from 750mm up to 2700mm, which allows for load bearing support over a variety of gaps such as for windows or doors.
Please note: These lintels require an additional 150mm end bearing at each end of the lintel. For example, if the gap that requires a lintel is 1200mm long, then an additional 300mm will need to be added to the lintel’s total length.
In order for this lintel to support the specified loads below, the lintel will need to be installed correctly. Care should also be taken to avoid shock loading on box lintels when used with concrete floors or any other heavy units.
The figures also take into account the different loading types which are common in traditional cavity wall construction. These figures have been acquired through testing in accordance with the requirements of standards BS 5977 Part 2: 1983 and BS EN 845-2:2003
If the bearing of a heavier load is required we can also provide a heavy duty load bearing box lintel (HDBOX/K-200).
