A 4m x 3m timber garden house is a popular choice for anyone who wants to add some extra space to their property whether it is for storage or a home gym, office or workshop. Many people are adding wooden garden buildings to their property and it is important to consider what you plan to use it for and the best position. It is also important to remember that a timber structure such as a summer house will need to be treated or painted each year so access to all four sides will need to be maintained.
This log cabin model is made from European Spruce which has a straight grain pattern making it ideal for construction projects as it is less prone to twisting or warping. It is quite lightweight compared to some hardwoods which makes it ideal for self-assembly projects as it is more manageable. It has a warm, light colour and an even texture which adds character to anything it is made into.
This 4m x 3m timber summer house in the 'Dickens' style available from First Fence has a wall thickness of 44mm making it a much more robust summer house structure. It has a flat roof and an overhanging canopy that keeps the interior protected from direct sunlight. The two front doors are double glazed as are the two generously-sized full-length windows that flank each side of the door, this floods the interior with large amounts of natural light.
This garden room comes in a flat-pack format and requires home assembly which is relatively straightforward if you have some construction skills, it comes delivered with full instructions. It is important that this building is erected onto a very solid, flat base such as concrete or slabs to ensure a sound installation. This product comes with base boards that form the foundation the building sits on, it is recommended that these are secured to the concrete with ground anchors (not included in kit). The walls are formed by the logs being placed in a horizontal interlocking manner (see installation guide). You may also need a spirit level, tape measure, power drill/screwdriver and a rubber mallet to gently manipulate the wall beams into place.
Once installed it will need painting or staining within 5 weeks, it will also require periodical maintenance, as all outdoor timber structures do, due to the effects of wind, rain and sunlight, so it is a good idea to position this in your garden so that you have access to all four walls.
Due to the thicker walls of this building, it is more suitable to year-round use, particularly if you add some form of insulation.
First Fence has a range of wooden garden buildings for you to choose from, in different styles and sizes, why not take a look?
