Post and Rail fencing is a classic and versatile fencing style that consists of vertical posts and horizontal rails. It is commonly used for a variety of purposes, from defining property boundaries to containing livestock. It is very simple in design with a straightforward structure and offers a traditional look that complements natural landscapes, farms and rural settings.

This type of fencing can be made from various materials, including wood and metal. More modern versions use vinyl or recycled plastic for greater durability and sustainability.

Post and rail fencing uses posts to provide stability for the fencing system and horizontal rails to connect each post and create the recognisable framework of this fence style. The fence can have two, three or four horizontal rails, depending on preference, and is a cost-effective solution compared to some other fencing styles.

Introducing Recycled Plastic Post and Rail Fencing

Post and rail fencing is part of First Fence's line of recycled plastic fencing products, including knee rail, domestic fencing and gates. The post and rail system is made from Plaswood which is manufactured from recycled plastic materials. It gives the classic look of timber while providing exceptional durability and performance.

We recommend M10 x 160mm galvanised bolts for fixing this system, please note they are not included with the product.

The recycled material has been designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, including extremely high or low temperatures, UV exposure and moisture. It is resistant to corrosion, rust, rot and other issues that affect wood or metal fences and needs little maintenance once it has been properly installed.

First Fence has everything you need for your post and rail fencing run, including this 1.7m x 100mm x 100mm post. This post is for a 1.2m high fencing system, and 500mm should be dug into the ground.

This post is also available as a 2.0m high post for the 1.5m high system and is a dig-in format, so you will need post mix to secure it soundly into the ground (one bag is recommended per post). Post centres for post and rail are 1.0m.

The horizontal rail, which is fixed to the installed post with M10 x 160mm galvanised bolts (these do not come with the products).

Post and rail requires little to no maintenance once it has been correctly installed; however, it is good practice to check all fencing connections periodically to ensure integrity and make any repairs as soon as they are spotted. It is easily cleaned with water to remove any built-up dirt.
